FM Sitharaman asks tax experts to justify exemptions, not just demand cuts

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called on tax professionals and industry bodies to shift their approach to tax reform. Instead of lobbying for exemptions and rate cuts, she asked them to identify tax provisions that have become obsolete, even if those provisions currently benefit them.
Sitharaman emphasized that India's economic position remains relatively strong despite global headwinds. She stressed the need for evidence-based tax reforms that strengthen the system rather than create new loopholes.
