SIR is illegal and must be reversed: former Chief Election Commissioner Quraishi

Former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi has said that the Special Representation Index (SIR) is illegal and needs to be reversed. Speaking at an event organized by The Hindu, Quraishi joined opposition leaders in claiming that delimitation and SIR are intertwined and designed to favour the BJP.

Jairam Ramesh, speaking on behalf of the Opposition, stated that the government has not yet prorogued the Monsoon Session as it plans to introduce related Bills around October 11. Opposition parties have argued that the combination of delimitation and SIR represents a systematic shift in representation that disadvantages non-BJP regions and communities.
