Fresh TMC-BJP Clash Outside Chanditala Police Station; Kalyan Banerjee Injured Amid Protest

Political tensions intensified in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Sunday after supporters of the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party came face-to-face outside Chanditala Police Station, leading to a heated confrontation and injuries to TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee.
The unrest began during a protest organised by Trinamool Congress leaders against the arrest of several party workers. A delegation was expected to submit a memorandum at the police station, but the situation quickly spiralled into chaos before the leaders could complete their programme.
Witnesses reported aggressive slogan-shouting from both sides, with the atmosphere turning volatile as rival groups exchanged accusations. Amid the confrontation, Kalyan Banerjee was reportedly injured and received medical attention after suffering a head injury during the disturbance.
The latest clash comes less than 24 hours after another high-profile political controversy involving TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. During a visit to Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas, Banerjee allegedly faced hostility from a crowd while meeting families linked to post-poll violence cases.
Reports from the incident claimed that eggs and stones were thrown in his direction, while protesters raised slogans against the TMC leader. Videos circulating on social media showed chaotic scenes as security personnel moved him away from the crowd.
Following the Sonarpur episode, Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP of orchestrating what he described as a planned attack and questioned the local law-and-order situation. Despite the incident, he continued with his scheduled programme and later met the family he had travelled to visit.
The back-to-back confrontations have further escalated the political temperature in West Bengal, with both the TMC and BJP blaming each other for the growing unrest. As investigations into the incidents continue, the clashes have reignited concerns over political violence and rising tensions between rival party workers in the state.
