Gauhati High Court seeks clarity on rehabilitation for evicted families in Assam

The Gauhati High Court has sought clarity on rehabilitation measures for approximately 650 families evicted in September 2024 from notified tribal land in the Sonapur area of Kamrup Metropolitan district in Assam.
The families, predominantly migrant Muslims, were displaced to clear 100 bighas of tribal land. The court's intervention raises questions about the adequacy of rehabilitation provisions for the displaced residents.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about land clearance operations and the welfare of affected communities in Assam's tribal areas.
