Gen Z challenges Haryana khap panchayats over marriage diktats

Haryana's khap panchayats have issued directives banning love marriages within village clusters or clans, along with restrictions on live-in and same-sex relationships. Those who violate these edicts face expulsion from their villages, the khaps have warned.

The orders have drawn sharp criticism from Gen Z on social media platforms. Young people, both men and women, argue that personal choices of consenting adults should not be overridden by community customs. They contend that statutory laws, not elderly council members, should be the arbiter of women's rights and freedoms.
