Generic degrees lack job market relevance, need overhaul: NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog has highlighted that generic undergraduate degrees such as BA, B.Sc and B.Com suffer from poor alignment with job market demands. The think tank flagged the weak job linkages of these traditional qualifications, emphasizing the need for substantial reforms in higher education curricula.
The assessment suggests that existing degree programmes do not adequately prepare graduates for employment opportunities, underscoring gaps between academic training and industry requirements. NITI Aayog's observations point to the necessity of restructuring education frameworks to improve employability and skill development among students pursuing these widely-offered degrees.
