GPS study on elephant movements aims to mitigate conflicts in Assam

The Assam Forest Department and WWF-India conducted a GPS tracking study between April 2021 and June 2026 to monitor elephant movements and reduce human-wildlife conflicts. The study tracked four female-led herds and one solitary male elephant across three high-conflict districts: Udalguri, Sonitpur, and Biswanath.
The initiative aims to understand elephant movement patterns and mitigate escalating conflicts between wild elephants and local communities in these regions, where human-wildlife incidents have been a persistent challenge.
