GST 2026 reforms signal growing government-industry trust: Deloitte

Deloitte India partner MS Mani said the upcoming GST reforms for 2026 reflect strengthening trust between the government and industry. He highlighted that technology-enabled initiatives are streamlining compliance requirements while making enforcement more targeted and precise.
Among the key changes, Mani pointed to simplified registration processes, annual return filings with quarterly payments, easier return corrections, and removal of arrest provisions. These measures are expected to alleviate compliance concerns among businesses and encourage more enterprises to formally register under the GST regime.
The shift toward tech-led compliance and reduced punitive measures signals the government's intent to reduce regulatory friction without compromising enforcement quality. Mani's assessment suggests the reforms aim to broaden the GST base by making participation less burdensome for smaller and medium enterprises.
