Gujarat to Release Kadana Dam Water to Protect Kharif Crops Amid Rainfall Deficit
Gujarat is grappling with a severe rainfall deficit as the state received only 0.3 mm of rain between October 1 and 10, against the seasonal average of 11 mm—a shortfall of approximately 97 per cent.
Facing this critical moisture scarcity, state authorities have decided to release water from Kadana Dam to protect standing kharif crops. The measure aims to mitigate crop damage during the critical growing phase when adequate water availability is essential.
The rainfall deficit threatens agricultural output across the state at a time when kharif cultivation is in progress. Water release from the dam is intended to ensure irrigation support to farmers and sustain crop viability through the lean monsoon period.
