Gurugram Police releases YouTuber Dhruv Rathee from detention

YouTuber and political commentator Dhruv Rathee was released from detention by Gurugram Police on Saturday night, an official said on Sunday. Rathee had been detained from his residence in Gurugram's Sector 56 on Saturday ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi.
According to police, Rathee was detained by three Crime Branch teams at around 6 am and taken to a Crime Branch office where he was questioned for about an hour, according to PTI. He was among over 6,000 people, including Opposition leaders, activists, and social media creators detained as authorities clamped down on the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
A police source told PTI that "He can be detained again, or further legal action might be taken if he tries to go to Jantar Mantar despite prohibitory orders." Earlier on Sunday, CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were also released from detention after a Delhi court ordered their release.
