Guwahati will host its first International Marathon on February 7, 2027, with a total prize purse of ₹1.25 crore, as the Assam government aims to position the city as a destination for international sporting events. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the event's logo in the presence of former India cricket captain Sunil Manohar Gavaskar.
The inaugural edition is expected to attract around 12,000 participants from India and abroad. The marathon will feature five race categories: Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.097 km), 10 km Run, 5 km Run, and 1.5 km Run. Sarma said the event would provide an opportunity to boost sports tourism in Assam and showcase Guwahati's heritage and culture to visitors from across India and overseas.
Registration for the event will begin on September 11. Sarma described the Guwahati International Marathon as a landmark initiative reflecting Assam's growing aspirations on the national and global sporting stage.
