“Have Some Courage”: Mahua Moitra’s Sharp Attack On Yusuf Pathan Sparks Fresh TMC Political Storm

TMC MP Mahua Moitra on Monday triggered a fresh controversy within political circles after launching a sharp public attack on fellow party leader Yusuf Pathan through a post on X, as reports of internal unrest within the Trinamool Congress continued to circulate.
In her post, Moitra directly questioned Pathan’s alleged urgency to travel to Delhi and suggested that he was responding to a call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. She wrote, “And @iamyusufpathan you are rushing to Delhi because @AmitShah has called you? Have some courage. You played for India. Our district voted you in with a huge margin. Have some shame & some spine.”
Her remarks come amid ongoing reports that nearly 20 TMC MPs may have extended support to the NDA, claims that have intensified speculation about growing divisions within the party’s parliamentary ranks. Separate reports have also suggested that some MPs held meetings in the national capital, further fuelling discussions around internal dissent.
The post quickly gained traction on social media, drawing mixed reactions. While a section of users supported Moitra’s strong wording and openness in calling out a colleague, others questioned the basis of her claims and demanded clarity over the allegations being made publicly.
The controversy has added to the broader atmosphere of uncertainty within the TMC, which has recently seen multiple reports of disagreements and shifting alignments among its MPs. Political observers note that such public exchanges could further highlight tensions already simmering within the party’s leadership structure.
Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan has in recent days denied separate claims regarding internal party instructions, including reports suggesting that he had been asked to resign his Lok Sabha seat, calling them completely false and politically motivated. He has maintained that no such direction was given by the party leadership.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has also dismissed speculation linking him to any communication involving Pathan, urging that unverified claims should not be circulated.
