Himanta calls Rahul 'mad person' over democracy murder charge

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, calling him a "mad person." Sarma's remarks came after Gandhi claimed democracy was being killed following the arrest of Congress candidate Milan Pradhan in the Nandigram assembly bypoll in West Bengal.
Sarma defended the arrest, saying it was police duty. He claimed Pradhan faced murder cases dating back to 2007, and police were obligated to act. Sarma also alleged that Rahul Gandhi had allowed a murder-accused candidate to contest elections.
Mocking Gandhi, Sarma said his appearance kept changing—sometimes with a beard, sometimes without—questioning his consistency as a leader.
