High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes launches online portal for data collection

Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar (Retired), chairman of the High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes (HLCDC), inaugurated a dedicated online platform on Wednesday in New Delhi. The web portal enables central government ministries, state and union territory governments, NGOs and individuals to submit data and information regarding settlement patterns, demographic changes and their causes.
The committee, established by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on 26th May, is tasked with studying demographic shifts driven by factors including illegal immigration, fertility variations, cross-border movement and economic opportunities. The portal facilitates stakeholder engagement and public access to the committee's work.
According to its mandate, the HLCDC will analyse structural population changes at religious or social community levels, identify underlying factors behind demographic changes, and recommend a permanent system for identification, detention and deportation of illegal immigrants. The committee will also propose institutional mechanisms to strengthen border management and population statistics.
