CCTV footage confirms Sahil Wakode used mobile phone in IIT Bombay exam, refutes social media claims

After CCTV footage from IIT Bombay's examination hall showing 2nd-year B.Tech. student Sahil Wakode using a mobile phone during an exam was released, several claims emerged on social media refuting the evidence. Some accounts on X alleged the video was fake or AI-generated, while others claimed Wakode was using a scientific calculator or geometry box that other students also had on their desks.
Supporters of Wakode on social media accused "caste Hindus" and media outlets of spreading misinformation through the CCTV footage. One account claimed the visuals were AI-generated and circulated by national media. Another argued that Wakode had already completed his examination and handed over his answer sheet before leaving the hall, suggesting cheating would be unlikely given his front-seat position.
The CCTV footage, which has been aired on various media channels, remains central to the cheating allegations against the student.
