Saim Ayub's cheeky send-off to teenage batter Sooryavanshi sparks drama in Asian Games final
IIT Bombay Professor Suryanarayana Doolla was questioned for approximately eight to ten hours by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday regarding the death of student Sahil Wakode, who died by suicide in his hostel room. During the interrogation on the institute's Powai campus, Doolla maintained that he had followed IIT Bombay's prescribed guidelines and procedures in handling the events that led to Wakode's death.
Wakode was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during a mid-semester examination on September 18. Doolla, who was invigilating the exam, asked the student to leave the examination hall. The student died by suicide later that day. Doolla denied allegations of caste-based discrimination and mental harassment, claims that have been made by Wakode's parents in their formal complaint. The parents have named the professor and several others in their complaint and have demanded his arrest. IIT Bombay had placed Doolla on leave following widespread student protests over the incident.
Investigators are expected to examine Doolla's statement alongside those of other individuals questioned in the case, along with digital and other evidence gathered during the probe. The Crime Branch had earlier taken over the investigation from Powai Police.
