Activist falsely attributes IIT student's 2023 suicide to caste harassment, misrepresenting facts

An activist identified as Suraj Kumar Bauddh has claimed that IIT Bombay student Darshan Solanki, who died by suicide in February 2023, was driven to it due to caste harassment. Bauddh made the allegation in a social media post on September 23, stating that faculty at premier tech institutes were "killing" Dalit students.

However, Solanki's father contradicted this narrative in media interactions. He said his son faced pressure from his roommate and that requests to change rooms were denied. The father clarified he has limited contact with other students and based his understanding mainly on media reports, not direct knowledge of caste-related discrimination at the institute.

The claim emerged amid broader allegations following the recent death of another IIT Bombay student, Sahil Wakode, triggering debates over campus discrimination and student welfare.
