IIT Bombay Students Push Administration on 18-Point Charter Implementation

IIT Bombay held a lengthy open house on Monday where students questioned the administration's response to their grievances and demanded clarity on implementing their 18-point charter. The discussion followed Director Prof Shireesh Kedare's signing of the charter late Sunday after meetings with protesting students.
Students raised concerns about the lack of an effective complaint mechanism. Kedare acknowledged that email-based grievance submission was inefficient and said a student-support portal was being developed to allow students to submit concerns and track complaint status through regular updates.
The administration will form a committee within a week to examine the 18 demands and prepare an implementation plan, aiming to resolve issues within a one-month deadline. The grievance-redressal system will assign professors to handle different complaint categories, and students will be able to file anonymous complaints, particularly when concerns involve faculty or officials.
