IIT-M researchers create coastal vulnerability maps for Chennai and Karaikal

Researchers at IIT-Madras have developed coastal vulnerability maps for Chennai and Karaikal to help authorities prepare for natural disasters and plan urban development. The maps identify areas at risk from flooding and sea-level rise in these coastal regions.
The institute also conducted flood inundation modelling and mapping specifically for Ennore in Chennai. These tools are designed to aid disaster preparedness efforts and inform urban planning decisions for coastal cities facing increasing climate and weather-related challenges.
