India reasserts Ladakh sovereignty as China disputes territory status

India has reasserted that Ladakh is an integral part of the country, rejecting China's position on the territory's status. New Delhi countered Beijing's assertion that Ladakh was established unilaterally and illegally, reaffirming India's sovereignty over the region.
China has reiterated that it never recognised Ladakh as a Union Territory, maintaining its long-standing dispute over the territory. The Chinese government has consistently objected to India's administrative reorganisation of the region since the 2019 constitutional changes.
The dispute reflects the broader border tensions between India and China, particularly in the Ladakh region where military standoffs have occurred in recent years. Both nations continue to assert conflicting territorial claims and reject each other's administrative actions in the disputed area.
