INDIA Bloc Takes Election Battle to Supreme Court Doorstep, 23 Parties Write to CJI Over Electoral Roll Revision

A broad coalition of opposition parties under the INDIA alliance has escalated its concerns over the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by formally reaching out to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
The move comes after a coordinated decision taken during a recent INDIA bloc meeting, where participating parties discussed what they described as serious concerns related to the electoral revision process and broader election management issues.
According to Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, a joint communication has now been submitted to the Chief Justice, signed by representatives of 23 political parties along with one Independent Member of Parliament. The initiative reportedly follows consensus reached during an earlier alliance meeting held in June, where leaders agreed to pursue institutional intervention on the matter.
The opposition parties have expressed apprehension over the implementation of the SIR process, claiming it raises questions about transparency and fairness in voter list preparation. However, the detailed contents of the letter have not yet been made public.
The alliance has also reiterated its collective stance under what it describes as a framework of unity and resistance, signaling continued coordination among member parties including DMK, Aam Aadmi Party, and others.
The development marks a significant escalation in the INDIA bloc’s political engagement over electoral processes, shifting the issue from parliamentary criticism to a direct institutional appeal at the highest judicial level.
