India pushes for resilient supply chains, self-reliance at BRICS forum

India is emphasizing the need for resilient supply chains and greater self-reliance among BRICS nations, according to statements from top officials at the grouping's forum.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar flagged energy security as a key concern, while Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal called for easier market access and the removal of non-tariff barriers among member countries. Both underscored the importance of reducing dependencies and strengthening internal capacities within the bloc.
The push reflects India's broader strategy to build stronger economic ties with fellow BRICS members—Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa—while addressing supply chain vulnerabilities exposed in recent years.
