India cuts foodgrain output target citing El Niño impact
India has revised down its foodgrain production target due to expected El Niño effects, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced at the National Agriculture Conference-Rabi Campaign 2026 on Tuesday.
Of the adjusted overall target, 177.72 million tonnes is projected to come from the rabi (winter) season crop, Chouhan said during the conference. The revision reflects concerns about weather patterns impacting agricultural output across the country.
