India must not let energy security become a US trade weapon, warns GTRI
A US-based think tank has cautioned India against allowing energy security to be weaponized in trade disputes. According to the warning, Indian goods could face tariffs as high as 100% under recent US legislation that targets principal buyers of Russian energy.
The move could compel India to significantly limit its imports of oil from Russia, on which the country has grown increasingly reliant since 2022. The think tank recommends that India prioritize energy security over pursuing trade advantages in its foreign policy decisions.
