India rejects UN rights office criticism over Delhi protests

India has responded sharply to criticism from the UN human rights office regarding recent protests in Delhi, dismissing the concerns as misplaced.
The Indian embassy reiterated that the right to peaceful assembly is constitutionally protected under Indian law, though subject to reasonable restrictions imposed in the interest of public order and national security.
The statement comes after the UN office raised questions about restrictions on demonstrations and freedom of expression in the capital. New Delhi maintains that its regulatory framework for public gatherings operates within constitutional limits and international norms.
