PM Modi sets global ambition for Indian chip industry as Semicon 2.0 targets 200 design firms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India's ambition to establish itself as a global player in semiconductor manufacturing and design. Speaking on the Semicon 2.0 initiative, Modi stated that Indian chips would be exported worldwide, signalling the government's commitment to building a robust domestic semiconductor ecosystem.
The Semicon 2.0 programme targets attracting 200 chip-design firms to India, aiming to boost the country's capacity in semiconductor innovation and production. This initiative builds on earlier efforts to strengthen India's position in the semiconductor value chain.
The move reflects the government's broader strategy to reduce India's dependence on imported semiconductors and position the nation as a competitive hub for chip design and manufacturing on the global stage.
