India maintains 7.8% GDP growth despite global turmoil: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that India has sustained robust economic growth despite global political upheaval, including the Russia-Ukraine war and ongoing tensions involving the US, Iran and Gulf nations. Speaking at a Goa Police event, Shah noted that India's GDP growth reached 7.8% in the April-June quarter of FY 2026-27, bolstered by strengthened economic engagement with other countries and strategic partnerships.
Shah highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited 22 countries in the past year, while heads of state from about 15 nations visited India. He stated that India's diplomacy has strengthened globally, with nine free trade agreements signed and proposals for 38 more. India is advancing FTA negotiations with the UAE, Australia, Britain, Oman, New Zealand and the European Union.
Shah added that India has forged solid agreements with other nations in defence, technology, energy, investment and trade sectors, demonstrating how strategic engagement has helped maintain economic momentum despite international instability.
