India opposes conditional MFN status at G20 trade meeting

Union Minister Piyush Goyal represented India at the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting, emphasizing that the Most-Favoured-Nation principle should ensure equal trading terms for both large and small traders.
Goyal stated India's commitment to addressing trade distortions through WTO-compliant measures while preserving developing countries' policy space for industrialization. He opposed making MFN status conditional on broader WTO obligations, asserting that equal access should be a fundamental principle.
During the discussions, India also reiterated its position on forced labor in global supply chains, reaffirming its stance on labor standards in international trade.
