India rejects UN report on youth retaliation, calls claims 'hearsay'

India has objected to a report by a UN human rights expert that alleged young people in the country face retaliation or stigmatisation for raising issues related to mental health and gender justice.
Anuj Swarup voiced the objection to the report's findings, dismissing the claims as lacking substantive basis. India's position challenges the UN expert's characterisation of the situation facing Indian youth engaging in discourse on sensitive social issues.
The dispute reflects broader tensions between India and UN human rights mechanisms over assessments of civil liberties and freedom of expression in the country. India has consistently contested international scrutiny of its domestic affairs, particularly on matters involving youth activism and social discourse.
