India's semiconductor push will face cyberattacks and sabotage, warns Ashwini Vaishnaw
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has warned that India's semiconductor industry must prepare for cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns and physical sabotage as the country strengthens its position in the sector.
Drawing from Apple's iPhone manufacturing experience in India, Vaishnaw cited instances of food poisoning, cut electricity wires and fabricated media reports as examples of coordinated disruption attempts. He said parties opposed to India's rise as a manufacturing hub "tried all tricks" to undermine the effort.
Vaishnaw told industry stakeholders that similar resistance patterns will emerge in semiconductors. He emphasized the sector faces inevitable opposition through cyberattacks, fake news and sabotage due to its strategic importance.
