India gave shelter to Sheikh Hasina as she was still PM then: envoy

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been residing in India since fleeing Dhaka following the collapse of her government in August 2024. An Indian envoy has justified the decision to grant her shelter, stating it was India's duty at the time given her status as the sitting head of government when she sought refuge.
The envoy's remarks come amid ongoing questions about India's role in providing asylum to the former Bangladesh leader during a period of political upheaval in the neighbouring country.
