Indian Navy Has Built Over 100 Ships Domestically, Says Chief of Naval Staff

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan highlighted India's significant progress in building naval platforms domestically, noting that over 100 ships have been constructed within the country. He stressed the importance of strategic foresight in developing future defence capabilities.
Swaminathan's comments were made at News18 DEFCON 2026 in New Delhi, a forum where defence leaders, policymakers and industry experts are discussing India's transition from self-reliance towards becoming a trusted global defence partner. The remarks underscore the Indian Navy's commitment to indigenous defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on external sources for naval vessels.
