Indian Railways train cancellation: refund rules for e-tickets and counter bookings

Indian Railways has outlined the refund process for passengers whose trains have been cancelled. The guidelines apply to both e-tickets purchased through IRCTC and tickets bought at railway counters.
For e-tickets booked via IRCTC, refunds are processed through the original payment method used during booking. Passengers do not need to physically visit a railway counter; the amount is credited directly to their account within a specified timeframe.
For counter tickets, passengers must approach the ticket counter with their ticket and ID proof to claim a refund. The Railways advises passengers to complete refund claims within a set period from the date of cancellation.
