₹440 Crore TMC Accounts Frozen Amid Huge Internal Political Clash

A major political and financial storm has erupted in West Bengal after banking transactions linked to three accounts associated with the Trinamool Congress were reportedly restricted, placing nearly ₹440 crore under a “debit freeze” amid allegations raised by internal dissident leaders.
According to senior police officials, the restriction prevents any withdrawals or outward transfers from the accounts, although incoming deposits remain unaffected. The action follows complaints filed by a group of rebel MLAs who demanded a detailed investigation into the origin of the funds and questioned whether all deposits were from legitimate sources.
The controversy has deepened an already escalating internal conflict within the party, with factions reportedly divided over organisational authority and financial control. Rival groups within the TMC have been accusing each other of mismanagement and irregularities as the post-election power struggle intensifies.
In their complaints submitted to cybercrime authorities, the legislators sought a formal probe into whether the funds were linked to lawful party funding or had any connection to alleged illegal financial channels, including accusations of misuse of influence and suspicious cash flows.
The development comes shortly after senior party functionaries themselves had moved to safeguard the accounts, writing to the bank to prevent any transactions until internal leadership disputes were resolved. That move, however, has now been overtaken by demands for a criminal investigation from the opposing faction.
Party insiders indicate that confusion has deepened over who holds legitimate financial authority within the organisation, with competing claims emerging about recent internal decisions on treasury control and administrative oversight.
