India's Skilling Mismatch: Training Centres Don't Align with Job Markets

India's skill development initiatives suffer from a fundamental mismatch between where training is provided and where employment opportunities exist. The current approach is largely supply-led, with training programmes established in population-dense regions rather than in areas with actual job demand.
This disconnect leaves young people equipped with certifications but without corresponding employment prospects. While the country has made progress in expanding vocational training infrastructure, the placement challenge remains acute. Aligning skill development with regional economic opportunities and industry requirements is critical to converting training into sustainable livelihoods.
