IPS Officer Bushra Bano Faces Backlash Over Video With Islamic Greetings

West Bengal IPS officer Bushra Bano has become the subject of political controversy following a video she shared on social media. The video began with the Islamic greeting "Assalamu alaikum" and included phrases such as "Inshallah" and "Jazakallah." A complaint has been filed against her with West Bengal's home secretary.

She first cleared UPSC in 2018 with an all-India rank of 277 but deferred service due to pregnancy. She appeared again in 2019, securing rank 234, and was selected for the Indian Police Service.
Bano, from the 2021 batch of West Bengal cadre, was initially posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Hoogli rural district. She was promoted to Additional SP in June 2026 and is currently posted in Kharagpur.
