Gandhi, Nehru, Patel sang same Vande Mataram: Kharge hits back at BJP

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge responded to BJP criticism following a video from the party headquarters showing him and Sonia Gandhi speaking while Vande Mataram was being performed during an August 15 Independence Day programme.

The BJP had accused Congress leadership of disrespecting the national song and demanded an apology. Kharge countered by invoking the legacy of independence leaders, asserting that Gandhi, Nehru and Patel all sang the same Vande Mataram.

The controversy emerged after two stanzas of Vande Mataram were sung at the event attended by Kharge in Goa, keeping the issue active in political discussions.
