Jagan calls for independent panel to appoint Election Commissioners

YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has called for the establishment of an independent appointment panel comprising the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition, and Chief Justice of India to select Election Commissioners.
Jagan stated that the public requires clarity on the appointment process rather than facing ongoing disputes over the issue. His remarks come amid broader concerns about the autonomy and credibility of India's election management body.
The proposal reflects ongoing debate within political circles about reforming the institutional mechanisms for appointing top constitutional positions to ensure greater transparency and cross-party consensus.
