External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly's high-level General Debate on September 26, delivering India's national statement during the afternoon session. The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly begins on September 8, with the General Debate running from September 22 to 28.
The session will be presided over by Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman. Brazil will be the first speaker when the General Debate opens on September 22, followed by the United States. US President Donald Trump is set to address world leaders from the UNGA podium on September 22, marking his second address to the UN during his second term.
Jaishankar's appearance comes as international conflicts and their economic consequences are expected to dominate discussions at the 193-member organisation. This year's high-level session, considered the "busiest diplomatic season" at the UN Headquarters, assumes particular significance given the current geopolitical tensions worldwide.
