Backup Opener Needs Enough Chances Before World Cup: Irfan Pathan On Jaiswal

India begin a three-match ODI series against the West Indies on September 27, with several key players unavailable due to the Asian Games. Former cricketer Irfan Pathan, speaking as a JioStar expert, said the series provides an ideal opportunity to test India's bench strength ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027.
Pathan emphasized that Yashasvi Jaiswal, as the backup opener in the squad, should receive adequate playing time. "By the time you reach South Africa for the World Cup, your backup opener should have had enough opportunities," Pathan said, adding that India should look to rotate players or shuffle the batting order to give Jaiswal regular chances.
Pathan also praised Naman Dhir's maiden ODI call-up, highlighting the young player's talent beyond his domestic cricket performances.
