Jammu administration begins eviction drive against Rohingya and Bangladesh refugees

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has launched an eviction drive against refugees from Bangladesh and Myanmar who have settled in various localities of Jammu over the past decade. As part of this action, authorities have identified property owners who rented out homes and land to these refugees and served them notices directing the clearance of occupied premises within days.
Following notices from the administration, landlords have asked Rohingya families occupying their properties to vacate houses and shops. The ultimatum has created distress in these settlements, with residents uncertain about where they will relocate.
The Rohingya issue has been contentious across India. Similar action against illegal refugees was taken in West Bengal. The UN had expressed concern about approximately 12 lakh Rohingya refugees sheltering in Bangladesh.
