Jammu and Kashmir government may move Bill to include Punjabi as official language

The Jammu and Kashmir government is considering introducing a Bill to accord official language status to Punjabi in the union territory.
The move would expand the current roster of official languages in J&K, which already recognizes Urdu and English alongside other regional languages for administrative and legislative purposes.
The proposal aims to acknowledge the linguistic heritage and representation of the Punjabi-speaking population in the region. If passed, the Bill would require legislative approval in the J&K assembly.
