Jantar Mantar protest: Demonstrators gather as site sealed, security heightened

Delhi Police detained approximately 150 protesters at Jantar Mantar on October 3, including prominent figures such as advocate Prashant Bhushan, political activist Yogendra Yadav, and AISA's Neha Bora. The detentions marked an escalation in the authorities' response to the ongoing demonstration at the site.
Despite the police action, protesters continued to gather at Jantar Mantar as authorities sealed the protest site from both sides and deployed additional security personnel. Several detained protesters were taken to Badarpur Police Station. Section 163 of the BNSS remained in force in New Delhi district, with no permission granted for the protest. The heightened security presence reflected a shift in the administration's approach to managing the demonstration.
Activists and political figures condemned the detentions and police action. Neha Bora stated that Jantar Mantar 2.0 would continue despite the crackdown. Activist Anjali Bhardwaj emphasized that the right to protest was being stifled, while Prashant Bhushan asserted that police cannot silence the voice of people. Delhi Police registered three FIRs in connection with the protests.
