Online fundraiser Jay Singh Rathore accused of Rs 1.5 lakh donation fraud using fake medical records

A user identified as Ajayveer (Jay) Singh Rathore posted an emotional appeal on X on September 21, claiming his 12-year-old sister faced vision loss and required Rs 1.2 lakh for medical treatment. He received over Rs 1.5 lakh from online donors within a day, then deleted payment details claiming the family had received sufficient funds.
The story collapsed when Shroff Eye Centre warned that someone had forged its letterheads to create fake patient records, prescriptions, and cost estimates. The hospital denied any connection to the case or the treatment described in the fundraiser.
Following the revelation, X users confronted Rathore in online discussions, shifting the conversation from sympathy to accusations of fraud. The incident has drawn widespread attention on social media, raising questions about verification of crowdfunding campaigns.
