JNU dismisses Congress MP Akoijam following sexual misconduct panel verdict

Jawaharlal Nehru University has dismissed Congress MP Akoijam following a recommendation of 'major punishment' by its internal committee. The action comes after eleven students filed a formal complaint against him, alleging misconduct during viva examinations.
The university's disciplinary process concluded that the allegations warranted the severest action available under its regulations. The case had centred on alleged inappropriate behaviour toward students during academic proceedings.
Akoijam represented Manipur in Parliament and held an academic position at the institution. The dismissal marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of workplace conduct within higher education institutions across the country.
