Judges outline vision for India's arbitration framework at GHAC Arbitration Week 2026

The Gujarat High Court Arbitration Centre hosted the third day of its Arbitration Week 2026 with a session on judicial expectations for India's arbitration framework. Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal of the Gujarat High Court, former Supreme Court Judge R. V. Raveendran, and former Delhi High Court Chief Justice A. P. Shah discussed what the arbitration system should aspire to achieve.
Justice Agarwal emphasized that judges should articulate improvements based on practical experience rather than mere legislative intent. She identified three key priorities: transparency, accountability, and predictability. She called for clearer law, disciplined procedures, greater institutional trust, and finality of adjudication—goals that align with what arbitration users expect.
The panel examined responsibilities across arbitral tribunals, counsel, courts, institutions and government in creating a system that delivers speed, cost-effectiveness and finality while addressing long-standing concerns about judicial intervention.
