July 2026 High Court Roundup: AI Deepfakes, Medical Rights, and Constitutional Freedoms

July 2026 saw significant rulings across India's High Courts addressing contemporary legal challenges. The Delhi High Court intervened in activist Sonam Wangchuk's health case during his fast at Jantar Mantar, directing regular clinical monitoring and timely medical treatment. The court emphasised that "life of every citizen is precious" and mandated government action.
In a landmark defamation ruling, the Delhi High Court partly allowed Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha's suit against circulation of AI-generated deepfake videos and morphed images. The court recognised that while public figures must tolerate political satire, synthetic media crossing into defamation warrants legal protection.
Other rulings addressed AI and copyright, medical rights, child welfare, bail procedures, workplace rights, GST proceedings, trademark disputes, and constitutional freedoms, reflecting courts' engagement with evolving legal issues.
