Kanimozhi Alleges Police Covering Up Crime to Protect CM's Image

DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi alleged that Tamil Nadu police were prioritising protecting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's image over securing justice for a class 10 girl, allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted at a government school near Vandalur. In a post on her X page on Friday, Kanimozhi said reports that the girl was allegedly given a sedative, suffocated and sexually assaulted inside the school campus were shocking.
Kanimozhi claimed the police were attempting to cover up the crime against the minor girl so that it would not tarnish the image of the government and the Chief Minister, who was campaigning for his party candidate in the by-election at Madurantakam. She noted that the victim's relatives had alleged the police were attempting to dismiss the incident as fake news.
Questioning police priorities, Kanimozhi asked whether preventing adverse impact on the Chief Minister's campaign was considered more important than securing justice for the girl. She further questioned how the student could obtain justice if police attempted to suppress the alleged incident.
