Karnataka pushes for expanded price caps on costly life-saving drugs

Karnataka's Health Minister U.T. Khader has called for the Union government to broaden price regulation measures beyond cancer medications to other life-saving drugs that carry high treatment costs.
Khader stressed that price rationalisation must result in tangible savings reaching patients directly. He argued that many essential medicines burden families financially and sought similar price-capping mechanisms to those applied to oncology drugs.
The demand reflects growing state-level pressure on the Centre to make healthcare more affordable by controlling prices of critical medicines used in treating various chronic and life-threatening conditions.
