SIR Row Deepens: Congress Demands CEC Resignation as BJP Claims Matter Settled

The Election Commission's latest statement on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) controversy has reignited political tensions. Congress MP Pawan Khera accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of attempting to obscure the issue, stating the CEC "cannot simply wash his hands of this mess." Khera renewed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's call for the CEC to resign or become an approver in connection with allegations of voter manipulation.
The dispute stems from reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi submitted at least 14 objection notes regarding SIR decisions, labelling certain changes as "illegal" and "unauthorised." Congress dismissed the Election Commission's statement as "too lame, too little, too late," demanding substantive answers on the matter.
The BJP countered that the Election Commission's statement had adequately addressed the allegations, declaring the controversy settled. The political standoff underscores deepening divisions over electoral processes and governance accountability.
